Today I would like to tell you a few words about remarkable and one of the best steampunk fiction / urban fantasy writer nowadays... Ladies and Gents - Gail Carriger.
Gail
Carriger is an American author of
steampunk fiction books and an archaeologist. ‘Gail
Carriger’ is a pseudonum for Tofa Borregaard.
She finished
Oberlin College [undergraduate degree], Nottingham University [master of
science in archaeological materials] and the University of California, Santa
Cruz [master of arts in anthropology].
Her first novel, Soulless, was published in 2009. Soulless
is a steampunk paranormal romance novel and it’s the first book in a projected
five-novel The Parasol Protectorate series, each featuring Alexia Tarabotti, a
woman without a soul, as its lead character. In the book we can find surprising
history happening in Victorian England where werewolves and vampires are
accepted as functioning members of society.
Soulless is a finalist for several
literary awards and a recipient of the 2010 Alex Award and Soulless was declared
by Publishers Weekly to be one of the "Best Books of 2009". A manga
adaptation of the novel began publication by Yen Press in July 2011. Her first
book earned her a nomination for the John W. Campbell Award for Best New
Writer.

Gail’s next
four books from The Parasol Protectorate series are the same good as the first
novel, Soulless, and in these books we
can read about Alexia and her unpredictable life.
↑ cover of Changeless
Changeless,
steampunk paranormal romance novel published in April 2010, is the second book
in a projected five-novel The Parasol Protectorate series. Changeless
spent two weeks on the New York Times Best Seller list, peaking at #20 on the
Paperback Mass Market Fiction list in the week ending April 3 2010.
↑ cover of Blameless
Blameless, the
third book in a projected five-novel The Parasol Protectorate
series, was published in September 2010. The book spent two weeks on the New
York Times Best Seller list, peaking at #20 on the Paperback Mass Market
Fiction list in the week ending September 5 2010. The novel slipped to #35, the
bottom of the extended list, the following week. Blameless topped the Locus
magazine mass-market paperback bestseller list in December 2010.

The fourth steampunk
with urban fantasy book in the New York
Times best-selling The Parasol Protectorate series, Heartless, was
published a year later, on June 28 2011.
Carriger's writing remains crisp and witty, and
the affectionate banter between Lord and Lady Maccon will please series fans
distressed by their long separation in 2010's Blameless.
Publishers Weekly [May 2011]
Heartless debuted
on the New York Times best-seller list at #11 for the week ending July 2 2011
and debuted at #12 on the Publishers Weekly best-seller list for mass market paperbacks.

In the end,
Timeless, the fifth and final book of The
Parasol Protectorate series, was released on February 28 2012, a year
after Heartless.
The world of Timeless is a unique recipe of
steampunk and fantasy spiced with light sprinkling of romance. Its setting is
rich for characters to romp about in, but the unbridled playfulness of the
language and dialogue shines brightest.

Her new Finishing School

of the paranormal, steampunk, and historical, and all these incredible places.

Carriger deploys laugh-out-loud bon mots on
nearly every page...Amid all the fun, the author works in commentary on race
and class in a sparkling start to the Finishing School series.

In my
opinion Gail is one of the best steampunk fiction / urban fantasy writer nowadays.
Her books are more than only words or only simple stories, as every one. Her books with surprising stories and amazing characters, are moving us to
other world, the world of Victorian England, where anything can happen...and where we can forget about the rest of the
world.
I’m keeping
my fingers for her, her next books and her writing career. And I wish her
all the best.
